The Muslim American Society’s volunteer organization, MAS Service Corps (MSC), in its continued efforts to be of support to the San Diego, CA community affected by the ongoing wildfire disaster, is appealing to MAS chapters across the country, and to the Muslim community at-large, in asking that this Friday’s Jummah prayer donations be designated toward funding of the MSC San Diego Relief Fundraising Campaign.

“It is the duty of Muslims in this country to help anyone in need, especially our fellow citizens whose lives are shattered by such disasters,” stated MAS Outreach Director, Iyad Hindi.

MAS, and its various divisions, have, throughout the years, been proactive in disaster relief efforts in numerous ways – more recently:

·      MAS launched a nationwide mobilization effort in support of the victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, organizing and providing training for hundreds of Muslim community volunteers for the September 11, 2005 ‘Muslim-Help Day” at the Houston Astrodome Convention Center.

·      Also as a result of MAS Katrina disaster relief efforts, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX), together with other state and local officials, commended MAS for its volunteer emergency deployment unit, “MAS Boots on the Ground.”

·      MAS also initiated the Katrina “Beyond Emergency Relief” campaign to assist families in transitioning from temporary emergency relief to progress towards permanent settlement.

·       This year, MAS Service Corps has been working with various relief agencies, such as the American Red Cross of San Diego, to provide aid and assistance on the ground for victims of the San Diego wild fires.

·       MSC has also launched the “San Diego Relief” fundraising campaign.

MAS chapters, seven of which are in California – with four being in the state’s southern region – and their community members, have mobilized to financially support the MSC San Diego Relief fundraising campaign.

“MSC is calling on ALL MAS chapters, Islamic Centers and contentious members of our great community nationwide, to mobilize in financial support of the MSC “San Diego Relief” fundraising campaign,” implored MSC Director, Ahmed Elkhaldy.

“The relief effort has just started, and needy families in particular, are trying to piece their lives back together – you can help in the recovery process,” continued Elkhady.

MSC has launched the San Diego Relief campaign with a seed amount of $5,000.00.
