Iowa Winds of Change in 2008: MAS Freedom Mobilizes Muslim Votes for the Upcoming Primaries

Presidential aspirants Sen. Barack Obama and Gov. Mike Huckabee won what many are calling a major political upset in Iowa. If Iowa is a bell-weather trend for 2008 politics, it is quite clear by the record turnout of first-time voters, crossovers, and independents, that Americans do not want a political dynasty of the Bushes or the Clintons, and that Americans are sick of the Washington status quo. Americans are eagerly looking for candidates of political change in 2008.Indeed the election of 2008 might be the most important national election in over seven decades. American Muslims dare not sit this one out. As the MAS Freedom Voting is Power (VIP) campaign has advocated, we need to step-up-to-the-plate in 2008.

MAS Freedom National Coordinator, Miriam Amer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who provided caucus educational training for the Iowa Muslim Community and met with many of the candidate’s, reports “There is an air of excitement this election that brought out a constituency that has traditionally sat on the political side line.”

That is good because the only way for political corruption, malfeasance, and ineptitude to prevail is for good citizens to sit on the side line and do nothing. There is a lot politically at stake in 2008, i.e., war and peace, the economy, health care, the environment, immigration, and a government in Washington that is dysfunctional and hogtied by corporate wealth and special interest. More directly, for the American Muslim there is the following: criminalization of our civil liberties, attacks on our charitable giving’s, separation of religion and state, abuses of the immigration process and it’s laws, ethnic and religious profiling, and a presidential and military industrial complex that has squandered trillions of our tax payers dollars on an abysmal foreign policy that has seriously diminished our standing in the world, especially the Muslim World.

Now is the time to get involved. Join the MAS Freedom VIP team and millions of other Americans in telling our government that “we are sick and tired of being sick and tried.”
