Ibrahim Abdil-Mu’id Ramey to co-host series with Rev. Grayland Hagler

WASHINGTON, D.C. (MASNET) Dec. 9, 2008 – MAS Freedom (MASF), as the civic and human rights advocacy entity of the Muslim American Society (MAS), will lend the voice of its Civil and Human Rights Director, Ibrahim Abdil-Mu’id Ramey to a series of discussions slated to begin this week with co-host Rev. Grayland Hagler, Senior Minister of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Washington, D.C.

The meetings will be attended by members of the progressive black and Hispanic congressional caucus. Speakers and attendees will discuss the impact of the current economic crisis on the nation’s poor, especially where it affects the housing sector.

Rev. Hagler, who heads a homeownership program for low and moderate income individuals and families in the nation’s capitol, has worked in the past with MAS Freedom in a successful campaign to regulate payday lending centers that exploit the nation’s poor.

Both Ramey and Hagler will call upon congressional leaders to use federal funds for low income mortgage assistance and housing loan restructuring.

MAS Freedom will also present its 2009 legislative agenda, which, in addition to civil rights improvements, will call upon members of congress to reinforce assistance to the poor.

“I find it very disturbing that throughout the 2008 presidential election campaign the candidates only talked about the middleclass. In these tough economic times someone has to be the voice for the poor,” stated Ramey.
